District to Hold Community Meeting on McKee House
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County invites community members and residents to a meeting regarding Churchill Woods Forest Preserve’s McKee House on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Lake Ellyn Boathouse, 645 Lenox Road in Glen Ellyn.
The meeting will feature an update from an architect with AltusWorks Inc., an architectural design firm specializing in historic structures that has been contracted by the District’s Board of Commissioners to study the McKee House. Attendees will learn about the current status of the structure and the firm’s initial findings concerning potential restoration efforts. Staff from the District’s Office of Planning and Commissioner Tim Whelan will be on hand to add to the discussion.
The McKee House was built in the 1930s and served as a residence for Forest Preserve District superintendents. The property was used as a home until 1996 and was then transitioned into a guardhouse. In February 2013 the District’s Board of Commissioners allocated funds for an architectural study of the McKee House to determine the best course of action for the building. The study is now underway. Information about the building can be found on the McKee House at Churchill Woods page.
Reservations are not required to join the meeting. For more information, call Jessica Ortega in the District’s Office of Planning at 630-871-6404.
