Doing Business With the Forest Preserve District

While Forest Preserve District employees perform land and facilities' maintenance, we often employ contractors for largescale construction or restoration projects.

The District purchases required goods and services in conformance with Illinois state law, the DuPage County Purchasing Ordinance, related resolutions of the Board of Commissioners and administrative policies. The District makes requirements for purchases under $20,000 in accordance with established procedures for small-dollar purchases and informal quotations. For purchases over $20,000, it advertises formal bid announcements in local newspapers and also lists them on this page. 

A supplier who is aware of a solicitation may contact the department listed on the announcement to request a bid document.

The District's Board of Commissioners reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive technicalities.

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is currently seeking bids and proposals on the following projects.

 

Fleet Bids

The District’s Fleet Management purchases items such as vehicles, landscaping and construction equipment at various times throughout the year. Information and specifications about items out for bid can be found here. Please check dates for each bid, as they will not have the same due dates or meeting dates. It is the bidder’s responsibility to check back occasionally for all amendments and other documents. 

 


District-Wide Custodial Services  

Sealed bids will be received until 3 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018 and will be publicly opened at 3:05 p.m. at the same location, for a project titled “District-Wide Custodial Services" at the main office of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, 3 South 580 Naperville Road, Wheaton, IL 60189. Bids must be accompanied by a 10 percent bid security. The scope of the work includes providing labor, supplies, materials and equipment to perform custodial cleaning services at various District offices and facilities. Contractor qualifications include five (5) years of equivalent or greater previous experience. Some of the work will be bid as alternates. Selection of alternates will be based upon need and available funds. 

A mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. on June 25, 2018 at Danada Forest Preserve, District headquarters, 3 South 580 Naperville Road, Wheaton, IL, 60189. Sign-in begins at 8:15 a.m. and the meeting starts at 8:30 am.

Consideration of contract award will likely be made on Tues., July 17, 2018. Plans, specifications and bid forms may be downloaded here.

Churchill Woods & Swift Prairie Ecological Maintenance Project

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, Wheaton, IL will accept sealed bids for the “Churchill Woods & Swift Prairie Forest Preserves Ecological Maintenance Project 2018" until 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at District headquarters at 3 S. 580 Naperville Rd., Wheaton, IL 60189-5000. Bids will be opened at 11:02 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the same location. Bids received after the deadline for submission will not be accepted and will be returned unopened. It is anticipated that the District’s Board of Commissioners will consider the bids on or about Tuesday, June 19, 2018.


The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County seeks a contractor(s) to perform various specialized ecological management tasks including herbicide application, tree removal, vegetation augmentation, and controlled burning. Work shall include hand cutting (chain saws, hand saws, brush saws), mechanical cutting (rubber-tracked skid steer mounted equipment including flail forestry mower and/or fixed tooth forestry mower), herbicide application (backpack, ATV) of exotic and excess weedy native woody species, brush disposal via brush pile burning, and native seed collection and dispersal, and implementation of prescribed fire.

A MANDATORY pre-bid meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in the Churchill Woods parking lot on the south side of St. Charles Road just west of Route 53. See the bid proposal for details.

Potential bidders will be required to have extensive proven experience with ecological management in natural areas within the Chicago Wilderness Region. References must be produced with bid submission.

St. James Farm Horse Trough Fountain Restoration

Sealed bids will be received at the main office of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, 3S580 Naperville Road, Wheaton, IL, 60189-8761 until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 and will be publicly opened at 1:30 p.m. at that location, for a project titled "St. James Farm Granite & Marble Horse Trough Fountain Restoration." The bids must be accompanied by a 10% bid security. The work involves cleaning, repairing and restoration of the granite and marble “horse trough” fountain.

This project is subject to the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act, 820 ILCS 130/0.01 et seq. The contractor shall also abide by the employment of Illinois Workers on Public Works Act (30 ILCS 570, sec 1-7). Minority business firms are encouraged to submit bids on the project and successful contract bidders are encouraged to utilize minority businesses as subcontractors for supplies, equipment, services and construction.

A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the project site at St. James Farm Forest Preserve located at 2S541 Winfield Road, Warrenville, IL 60555. Consideration of contract award will likely be made on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

Mallard Lake Forest Preserve Channel Restoration & Stabilization

Sealed bids will be received at the main office of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, 3S580 Naperville Road, Wheaton, Illinois, 60189-8761 until 2 p.m.., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 and will be publicly opened at that time and location, for a project titled "Mallard Lake Forest Preserve Channel Restoration & Stabilization.” The bids must be accompanied by a 10% bid security. The project consists of work within approximately 2,890 LF of the West Branch DuPage River, of which 1,850 LF will consist of rock bank stabilization within the existing channel and the remaining 1,040 LF will consist of construction and stabilization of a new meandered channel. The work will also include five years of vegetative maintenance, management and monitoring. The construction estimate is approximately $3,000,000.

This project is subject to the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act, 820 ILCS 130/0.01 et seq. The contractor shall also abide by the employment of Illinois Workers on Public Works Act (30 ILCS 570, sec 1-7). Consideration of contract award will likely be made on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.
