Someone to Know: Austin Kopp
One of the best ways to enjoy the serenity of nature is to set up a tee time at one of the District’s three golf courses: Oak Meadows in Addison, Maple Meadows in Wood Dale and Green Meadows in Westmont. A familiar and friendly face at the courses is Golf Services Supervisor Austin Kopp. He provides golfers with great customer service and oversees several golf-related programs and events. Kopp can’t help but spread his love for nature, which he believes is vital to protect and conserve.
What are some of your responsibilities as the golf services supervisor for the District?
I wear many different hats as part of my job duties. I particularly enjoy communicating with our golf customers and staying in touch with them to ensure they receive exceptional customer service. I get to work with and oversee many different golf events, tournaments and programs. I also take pride in creating a welcoming pro shop and retail environment for customers to shop our selection of golf-related merchandise. It is also extremely important to keep the overall business goals and mission of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County in mind when making business decisions.
What is your favorite preserve?
Of course, I enjoy the golf preserves and the recreational opportunities they provide, but I also enjoy taking my family to Herrick Lake Forest Preserve in Wheaton for hiking and canoeing.
What is your favorite season within the DuPage Forest Preserves?
My favorite season in the preserves is spring, because everything is fresh and renewing after a long winter!
What do you like to do with your time away from work?
I enjoy spending time outdoors with my wife and daughter by hiking and biking. I always look forward to football season and watching college football and “Da” Bears.
What inspires you in nature? Why do you like to share that with others?
I am inspired by the sheer scope and magnitude of things in nature. I recently took a trip to Yellowstone National Park and Mt. Rushmore, and I always find it humbling to take an early morning hike in the mountains. I think it’s important to realize how large the world is and try to do our best to be productive and give our best effort every day.
