District Moves Forward with Demolition of Springbrook Prairie Guard Residence

(Sept. 19, 2017) — The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is taking steps to demolish a vacant guard residence at Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve in Naperville.

The 3,600-square-foot two-story Cape Cod frame house at 29W128 83rd Street in Naperville will be razed by the end of the year as part of a District initiative to remove deteriorating buildings no longer of use to the agency.

The District acquired the building in 1979 when it purchased the surrounding land, known as the Parsons farm. It used the house as a guard residence until 2015, when it was removed from the District’s guard resident program due to a significant decrease in service request calls and projected maintenance and repair costs to upgrade the water and electrical systems and address structural and health-safety issues.
