Extreme Motus Wheelchair

The Extreme Motus all-terrain wheelchair is designed to glide over sand, dirt, grass, snow, and gravel. Durable Wheeleez balloon tires absorb bumps naturally and provide smooth travel across any terrain. This chair is designed for individuals to be pushed by another person.

The medium (red) chair has a 16.5-inch-wide seat and supports up to 150 pounds.

The large (blue) chair has a 18.5-inch-wide seat and support up to 250 pounds.

Operation and Safety

Always use the seat belt with the Extreme Motus chair. Use safety tether on handle on slopes for added safety by slipping your wrist through loop on tether attached to handle.

For soft turns, press hard on the handle of the side you are wishing to turn towards and push forward harder on the opposite side. To turn hard, press down on handle bars to unweight or minimally weight the front tire and rotate turn in desired direction.

Transferring

Transferring into the Motus chair can be through a lift transfer or if the individual is able to stand, someone can assist the person with balance and have another person (slowly) push the Motus chair from behind them, guiding the front wheel between their feet, moving far enough until the person is able to be assisted into a sitting position.

Forest Preserve District staff can hold the chair for stability but are not able to directly assist with lifts or transfers. If you require assistance transferring, please bring a companion to assist.

Pin Positioning

Two pins (left and right) connect the leg section of the chair. These can be set in an upper or lower position. The upper hole will set the leg frame to a lower position for more straight legs. The lower hole will position the chair in a slightly reclined position to provide more core stability. Pins must be fully inserted or will bend and may come out.

Brakes

Independent rear brakes provide quick braking on the left, right, or both sides.

To apply the parking brakes: Squeeze brake handle and push down the button on the handle. Release the brake handle while button is pressed and brake should remain applied.

To release the parking brake, squeeze the brake handles hard, and then release. This should release the brake.

Storage

Remove pins from both sides to fold leg section.

CAUTION: Before pulling second pin, support the chair portion of the Motus as it will fold in half immediately and can potentially cause injury. Seek assistance if you are unsure of this movement.

Ensure strap is used to secure both sections together so it does not fall open, causing injury.
