Our Volunteer Program
Our Forest Preserve District’s volunteer program is designed to engage volunteers who are willing to donate their time, talents, and resources to support staff and programs in carrying out the mission, purpose, and guiding principles. The volunteer program offers opportunities to assist and support staff across many diverse programs.

Volunteer With Trail Watch
Trail Watch volunteers support forest preserve police by hiking or biking the forest preserve trails, where they share information and safety tips with visitors. They answer questions about the preserves, hand out maps, keep an eye on trail conditions, and report emergencies directly to Forest Preserve District police.
Volunteer Positions
Commitment: Seasonal/Flexible (8 hours/month and one event/year)
Location: Districtwide
Minimum Age: 18
Application Deadline: Feb. 15
Distinguishing Features of the Position:
Assist staff by providing visitor information while patrolling the District’s trails on a bicycle and ensuring the safety of preserve visitors, resources and facilities. Volunteers also assist with parking at special events at preserves and educational sites throughout the District. Volunteers will interact with the public and respond to questions and requests for information. Duties may vary at the discretion of District staff.
