Commissioner Al Murphy — District 6
As a lifelong resident of DuPage County and an avid outdoorsman, Al Murphy has a keen interest in the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. He believes his passion to make green space available and accessible, as well as his political and business experience, have prepared him to serve on the District’s Board of Commissioners.
Elected in 2014, Murphy’s top priority is to hire an executive director to manage the District’s day-to-day operations. He also wants to ensure reorganization is focused on customer service, accessibility and education. Murphy believes the District’s policies and organizational framework must provide visitors with the best experience in a cost-efficient manner.
Murphy has fond childhood memories of fishing at Pratt’s Wayne Woods and tubing at Blackwell. He has spent time at many DuPage forest preserves for Scout outings with his sons. He has volunteered his time in the preserves and frequents them as often as he can.
Murphy has been an alderman in West Chicago since 2003, where he is a member of the Public Affairs and Development committees, and has also served on the city’s Downtown Development Committee, Zoning Board of Appeals and Liquor Commission. He is owner of Murphy’s Ace Hardware in West Chicago and is also active in the Lions Club.
Murphy is married and has three children. He earned a business degree from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.
