Board of Commissioners — District 3

Commissioner Linda Painter — District 3

Linda Painter has been a Forest Preserve District commissioner since 2008 but has followed board proceedings for years. Before deciding to run for office, she attended meetings to keep abreast of projects and resolutions and to ask the board to consider extending a trail and adding picnic tables and benches at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve.

As a commissioner she led the development of the 79th Street trail at Greene Valley Forest Preserve, which increased safety and accessibility for nearby residents, and continues to look for ways to improve visitors’ experiences Districtwide. She has also been instrumental in acquiring 89 acres of open space in District 3, underscoring her belief that public lands are important to the quality of life of not only today’s residents but also tomorrow’s. She remains a watchdog of taxpayers’ dollars and holds that the District must maintain its fiscal integrity while guaranteeing long-term, high-quality services.

As a pediatric nurse, Painter is an advocate for the physical, psychological and emotional benefits that the outdoors and unstructured play provide children. She works to promote conservational, educational and recreational programs for youngsters and keeps subscribers to her e-newsletter informed about upcoming activities and events.

A 24-year resident of DuPage County, Painter holds leadership roles in the Timberlake Civic Association, Argonne National Lab Community Leaders Group, Kiwanis Club, Downers Grove Township Republican Organization and other groups. She lives with her husband in unincorporated Hinsdale and is a mother of three. She enjoys the outdoors and the many amenities the county’s forest preserves offer.
