Danada - Cromwell Trail
The DuPage Forest Preserve District will construct a 10-foot-wide limestone trail to connect Cromwell Drive at Butterfield Road (IL Route 56) to the Danada Herrick Lake Regional Trail in Wheaton. The multi-use trail will be 0.4 miles in length.
Improvements at Butterfield Road and Cromwell Drive include pedestrian signals, crosswalk striping, and detectable warning at roadway intersections. The proposed trail will provide a vital connection to Wheaton's bicycle network via the signed on-street bicycle route on Cromwell Drive.
A public hearing for the project was held in February 2018. Overwhelming public support for the project helped the District obtain a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program Grant (RTP) in 2020.
2022
Status: In Progress
The project is expected to go to bid in spring 2022 and construction is expected to begin in summer 2022, pending permit review. The new anticipated completion date is spring 2023, depending on weather conditions, permit review and other unforeseen circumstances.
Oct
2021
This project is currently in the permitting phase. The project was resubmitted for permits in October 2021 after comments were received in late summer 2021 from the Illinois Department of Transportation, DuPage County Building and Zoning, and DuPage County Stormwater Management.
Funding
The District has been awarded a grant through the Recreational Trails Program administered by the IDNR, which will fund $200,000 of the $270,000 project. The remaining costs will be funded through the Forest Preserve District’s yearly appropriated construction and development funds.
