The Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation — advances the Forest Preserve District's vision through philanthropic endeavors.

Adopt a Blanding's Turtle

Help Conserve the State-Endangered Blanding's Turtle

  • Provide care for a Blanding's turtle hatchling born in August 2017, and support field-monitoring efforts and habitat-enrichment projects
  • The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has led regional efforts to help the Blanding’s turtle for more than 20 years
  • Project Goal: 23 adopted turtles of 200 available. 11.5% to goal
    Please note: You won’t be able to take your turtle home, but you will be able to name it
  • We also welcome a donation to support the health and habitats for these turtles and other species

Belleau Woods Restoration

Help Restore Belleau Woods Forest Preserve

  • Support the removal of nonnative, invasive plants at Belleau Woods Forest Preserve, and revitalize the habitat for one of the only remnant woodlands in DuPage County
  • Project Goal: $42,000. $24,508 raised. 58% to goal

Mayslake Staircase Restoration

Help Restore a Historic Feature

  • Help repair and refinish the Mayslake Hall central staircase, including woodwork on the staircase and balustrade and the installation of a period-appropriate runner
  • Project goal: $43,815. $14,142 raised. 32% to goal
  • Two donors will match the first $10,000 raised



Designated Gifts

The Friends welcomes gifts of any amount. You may choose to designate your gift to a particular education site, forest preserve, habitat restoration project or species-recovery program. Or your contribution can remain unrestricted, meaning it will support a cause where its needed most at the Forest Preserve District.
