Help Us Conserve a Species

Adopt a State-Endangered Blanding's Turtle Hatchling

For 25 years the Forest Preserve District has been leading regional efforts to help the state-endangered Blanding’s turtle, and now you can be a part of the Blanding's turtle head-start program, too!

Adopt a Blanding’s turtle hatchling and your donation will provide care for a turtle born as part of the Forest Preserve District’s program. You won’t be able to take your turtle home, but you will be able to name it. You might even receive updates once your turtle is released into the wild thanks to a microchip ecologists will place with the animal. Your gift will also support field-monitoring efforts as well as habitat-enhancement projects.

There are only so many hatchlings expected each season, so adoption opportunities are limited. Complete the Adopt a Blanding’s Turtle form (PDF) on this page, or select your gift level and complete the adoption form online below. We also welcome donations of any amount to support the habitats for these special turtles.

Our head-start program doesn't receive state or federal money. We do all we do with support from Forest Preserve District tax dollars and people like you who care about rare, threatened and endangered wildlife.

Join hundreds of wildlife lovers to enhance the Blanding's turtle population in northeastern Illinois and be a part of the program, too. Make your tax-deductible gift today, and adopt a Blanding's turtle hatchling.

Each level offers support for a period of one year after the gift date. Mark your calendar to renew your support for your turtle or adopt a new turtle next year.
