Our Education Partnerships

The Forest Preserve District partners with multiple conservation- and education-minded organizations to enhance the preservation of land, restore and protect natural resources, and teach students about native plants and animals in DuPage forest preserves. Through these partnerships, we build upon our leadership in the fields of conservation and land management, wildlife rehabilitation, cultural and historical preservation, and more to provide expertise, resources and best practices in our community.

Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary science and engineering research center, where talented scientists and engineers work together to answer the biggest questions facing humanity, from how to obtain affordable clean energy to protecting ourselves and our environment.

The Forest Preserve District partners with Argonne National Laboratory to deliver collaborative programs about natural resources and management. 

Chicago Wilderness Alliance

Chicago Wilderness Alliance

Chicago Wilderness Alliance is a regional alliance leading strategy to preserve, improve, and expand nature and quality of life. By connecting leaders in conservation, health, business, science, and beyond, it tackles challenging issues to ensure a resilient region. The alliance is sponsored by the Friends of the Forest Preserves, which is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The Forest Preserve District partners with Chicago Wilderness Alliance by participating on its planning committee and other special sections while developing programs for residents and schools throughout the region.

The Conservation Foundation

The Conservation Foundation

The Conservation Foundation improves the health of our communities by preserving and restoring natural areas and open space, protecting rivers and watersheds and promoting stewardship of the environment.

The Forest Preserve District partners with The Conservation Foundation by sharing best-management practices in conservation and fiscal stewardship.

DuPage County Farm Bureau

DuPage County Farm Bureau

The DuPage County Farm Bureau is a 501(c)(5), not-for-profit, individual membership association through which farm people can work together and cooperate with others to strengthen agriculture’s role and influence as a vital part of a strong, prosperous economy in a free America.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the DuPage County Farm Bureau by offering sheep-shearing programs at Kline Creek Farm.

 

DuPage County Stormwater Management

DuPage County Stormwater Management

DuPage County's Stormwater Management provides residents with high-quality stormwater management, floodplain mapping, water-quality and regulatory services and floodplain operations. 

The Forest Preserve District partners with DuPage County Stormwater Management by managing stormwater resources and maintaining facilities.

DuPage Monarch Project

DuPage Monarch Project

The DuPage Monarch Project is a group of local organizations working together to provide education about monarchs and increase the amount of suitable monarch habitat throughout DuPage County. DuPage Monarch Project is asking mayors and village boards to formally resolve to make their communities more monarch friendly.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the DuPage Monarch Project by advancing pollinator populations through programs and seminars.

Elmhurst College inspires intellectual and personal growth in our students, preparing them for meaningful and ethical contributions to a diverse, global society.

The Forest Preserve District partners with Elmhurst College by providing students clinical laboratory experiences and assist with native wildlife rehabilitation.

Field Museum Research & Collections

Field Museum Research & Collections

The Field Museum Research & Collections are at the leading edge of scientific research, conducting research in labs and around the globe to answer key questions about the world and heritage. They rely on the Museum’s 40 million artifacts and specimens—only 1% of which are on public display—to answer fundamental questions about our planet, its life, and its cultures. 

The Forest Preserve District partners with the Field Museum Research & Collections by managing natural-resources collections and sharing education materials, including loan box artifacts.

Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County

Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County

The Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, advances the vision of the Forest Preserve District through philanthropic endeavors. The money it collects through its fundraising efforts helps the District manage the county's prairies, woodlands and wetlands and offer educational and recreational activities countywide.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County by offering grants for programs and unique experiences for financial corporate sponsors and individual contributors.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources

Illinois Department of Natural Resources

The IDNR manages, conserves and protects Illinois' natural, recreational and cultural resources, further the public's understanding and appreciation of those resources, and promote the education, science and public safety of Illinois' natural resources for present and future generations.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the IDNR by providing educational and recreational programming and areas for nature exploration and monitoring E & T species.

Illinois Natural History Survey

Illinois Natural History Survey

Illinois Natural History Survey investigates and documents the biological resources of Illinois and other areas. It acquires and provides natural history information that can be used to promote the common understanding, conservation and management of these resources.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the INHS concerning statewide natural resources, species' monitoring and data collection.

Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum

Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum

The Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum strives to provide an educational environment in the Benedictine tradition that inspires all people to seek a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world’s natural and cultural diversity through engaging exhibits, educational programs, and the preservation of its collections.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum by developing educational programming and supporting the loan box program.

Kane-DuPage Regional Museum Association

Kane-DuPage Regional Museum Association

The Kane-DuPage Regional Museum Association (KDRMA) is a 501c3 alliance of more than 50 museums. The organization serves its members through collaborative programming, promotion and professional development and networking.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the Kane-DuPage Regional Museum Association through the "Passport to Adventure" program by promoting visitation to local museums and their programs.

Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association

Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association

NEDSRA improves the quality of life for thousands of people with disabilities each year, by providing them with a variety of recreational and social programs. The programs are offered in partnership with eight park districts and three village recreation departments.

The Forest Preserve District partners with NEDSRA by offering cooperative recreational programs at DuPage forest preserves.

Regional Office of Education

Regional Office of Education

The DuPage Regional Office of Education is a service organization whose responsibilities are defined by Illinois School Code, Illinois Administrative Code, Illinois State Board of Education mandates, and stakeholder needs. The essential role of the office is to provide high quality service and support to all stakeholders and collectively expend every effort to meet the special responsibility to prepare our children for the world they will face. In addition to the myriad of services provided directly to educators and schools, the office also provides services and support to community members, private schools, parents, children, business leaders, and others. 

The Forest Preserve District partners with the Regional Office of Education by providing teacher professional-development opportunities, delivering STEM initiatives, and supporting educators and administrators.

SCARCE provides programs that teach people how and why they should  care for the earth and helps schools make a positive impact on the planet.

The Forest Preserve District partners with SCARCE by delivering programs about sustainable practices and recycling resources.

School Association for Special Education in DuPage County

School Association for Special Education in DuPage County

SASED is a special education joint agreement, commonly referred to as a special education cooperative.  In Illinois, joint agreements/cooperatives are established by multiple school districts “to provide needed special education facilities and to employ a director and other professional workers…” (105 ILCS 5/10-22.31) “...for the purpose of providing comprehensive and cost efficient special education services”.

The Forest Preserve District partners with SASED by offering cooperative recreational programs at DuPage forest preserves.

South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation

South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation

The South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation s committed to a mission of providing dynamic recreation programs and quality services for residents with disabilities. SEASPAR is recognized as a special recreation association by the Illinois Association of Park Districts and is an extension of the services of its twelve member entities.

The Forest Preserve District partners with SEASPAR by offering cooperative recreational programs at DuPage forest preserves.

U.S. Department of Agriculture

U.S. Department of Agriculture

The USDA provides leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development, nutrition and related issues based on public policy, the best available science and effective management.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the USDA by caring for wild animals acquired through the federal government for educational purposes.

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service works with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service by caring for wild animals acquired through the federal government for educational purposes, permitting and the "Bass in the Class" program.

University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners

University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners

The University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener program helps others learn to grow. Master Gardeners involve people in improving the quality of life by helping them find sound management practices for home and urban natural resources by creating aesthetically pleasing environments, promoting well-being through people-plant interactions and horticultural therapy, and contributing to a safe and abundant food supply through home fruit and vegetable production.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners for volunteer and programming support.

University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum

University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum is a global source of knowledge of and a model for restoring ecologically sustainable relationships between people and the land through integrative, innovative, and collaborative approaches in science, stewardship, education, and public engagement.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum for the "Earth Partnership for Schools" initiative by planting native habitats in schoolyards.

West Suburban Special Recreation Association

West Suburban Special Recreation Association

The West Suburban Special Recreation Association provide recreation programs for adults and children who have a physical impairment, a mental disability, or any other type of disability.

The Forest Preserve District partners with the West Suburban Special Recreation Association by offering cooperative recreational programs at DuPage forest preserves.

WDSRA engages community-based social and recreational programs for individuals of all ages with special needs.

The Forest Preserve District partners with Wheaton College for prehistoric natural-history research and collections management.

Wild Ones

Wild Ones

Wild Ones promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities. Wild Ones educates people about native plants for the health of the environment and everything living in it.
