News Release

Forest Preserve District to Close Preserves and Facilities Jan. 23 Due to Forecast for Extreme Cold

With dangerously cold temperatures forecast for the region, all Forest Preserve District of DuPage County forest preserves and buildings will be closed and programs canceled on Friday, Jan. 23.

The closure includes all DuPage forest preserve recreational facilities — parking lots, trails, off-leash dog areas, shelters, fishing lakes, etc. — as well as the Forest Preserve District’s headquarters office and six of its education centers: Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton, Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook, Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago, Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, St. James Farm in Warrenville, and DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center in Glen Ellyn. (Graue Mill and Museum in Oak Brook is already closed for the winter.)

The Forest Preserve District made the decision out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s safety. The National Weather Service expects wind chills extreme enough to cause frostbite after as little as 10 minutes of exposure.

District facilities are expected to reopen on Saturday, Jan. 24. Visit dupageforest.org and our Facebook page for updates.
