Embrace the Season at Wonders of Winter Feb. 1 at Mayslake Peabody Estate

Annual all-ages event marks 19th year

(Jan. 9, 2020) — Enjoy outdoor winter fun with activities like ice fishing and snowshoeing at the DuPage Forest Preserve District’s Wonders of Winter open house on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St. in Oak Brook.
Help cut ice from the lake; try ice fishing, geocaching, snowshoeing; and enjoy wildlife activities, weather permitting. Warm up around an open fire while making s’mores, and then step inside Mayslake Hall for a variety of games, crafts, and interesting information about plants, animals, and programs from rangers, naturalists, and volunteers. Archery will be offered if there’s not enough snow and ice for other outdoor activities. Explore historic Mayslake Hall, too, a registered national landmark well-known as a cultural and educational center.

“This is a great family-friendly event that has something for everyone no matter what the weather,” said Sarah Rosenberg, District ranger who is organizing this year’s event. “There will be plenty to do, even if we don’t have snow on the ground or ice on the lake!”

Registration is not required, and admission and most activities are free. For more information about Wonders of Winter, call 630-933-7248.
